Girls thump Vals, lose to Dogs

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team split the bill last week, losing to Whitefish 3-0 Thursday, but downing Bigfork 4-0 Friday.

Against Bigfork, McKenzie Kiser scored a goal and had two assists. Sophomore Danielle Delventhal also continued her scoring ways with two goals in the game.

But the girls had a tough time against the Bulldogs in Whitefish. The Dogs' Natalie Gayner scored at the four-minute mark and Caroline Carbo added another goal at the 34-minute mark to make it 2-0 at the half.

Presley Pritchard added an insurance goal for the Dogs at the 50-minute mark.

With the exception of keeper Niesha Thompson's play, coach Greg Trenerry was disappointed with the team's performance.

"(Whitefish) beat us in every aspect of the game," he said. Thompson, he said, made some very nice saves or the score would have been much worse.

"They played much better against Bigfork," he said. "We still have a good shot of making the playoffs."

Thompson also had a good game against the Vals, he said.

"She made some amazing saves to preserve the shutout," he said.

The Kats are dealing with injuries. Elena Potter has an ankle injury and Delventhal has a bothersome foot. Julia Burgi injured her back and did not play against Whitefish.

The Wildkats are now 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The girls travel to Corvallis Thursday (today) and then are home against Polson Saturday at 1 p.m. for homecoming.
