Glenn Freeman

Glenn “Nappy” Freeman, 81, passed away at his Kalispell residence on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011.

Nappy was born May 30, 1929, in Shelby, to Bud and Jean Freeman. Glenn was in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, was a sheriff, a propane deliveryman, worked for the Forest Service, managed Ski Bowl lanes in Whitefish, installed carpet and vinyl, was a vehicle mechanic.

He loved tinkering with anything that wasn’t working and could fix it all, no matter how big or small.

When Ski Bowl was sold, he built a new bowling alley south of Whitefish. He was a man of many trades and a wealth of knowledge, and was a strong believer in “duct tape.”

When he was well, he most enjoyed fly fishing, trap shooting, snowcatting, playing cards, mentoring his children and grandchildren and mostly, spending time with friends and family.

He was a man of great integrity and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He touched a great many people.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister “Kacy” Truesdell.

He is survived by his wife Marlene and their son and his spouse Calvin and Kathy Freeman; two daughters and their spouses, Kim and Russ Porter, and Karen and Mark Koday; two sons and spouses, Chuck and Heidi Freeman, and Mike and Heide Freeman; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Karina and Frank Scholz, and Mya and Tony Hay; stepson and his spouse, Dirk and Rhonda Thompson; 16 grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

A memorial get together will be held later in the year.
