Alan Lee Moore

| February 16, 2011 9:53 AM

Alan Lee Moore, 68, was born on Feb. 2, 1942, in Rochester, N.Y., and passed away peacefully at Brendan House on Jan. 12, 2011.

Alan graduated from Penfield High School in Rochester and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. He was an engineer at Eastman-Kodak until his retirement.

After retirement, Alan lived in Arizona, Alaska and Montana. He moved from Montana to Willow, Alaska, in 2002, with his wife Miriam “Mimi” for “an adventure of a lifetime.” For five years he lived 80 miles north of Anchorage, enjoying the magnificent wildlife and outstanding scenery in the remote area of Hatcher Pass. One of Alan’s greatest pleasures in nature was climbing a mountain, “going to the overlook,” to get a better view of his world. Catching a glimpse of Alaska’s Denali Mountain on a clear day or seeing snow-capped peaks in Glacier Park were guarantees that he would have a great day.

Alan volunteered much of his retirement time to charities helping with animal welfare. He was a founding board member of the Flathead Spay and Neuter Task Force. He and Mimi also spent many occasions transporting adopted dogs to their new homes.

Alan will be missed by his family and many friends for his positive attitude, sense of humor, joyous smile, and never-ending love of life.

Alan leaves behind his beloved pets ... Sugar Bear, Kitty Blue and Scooter Pie. He is also survived by his wife, Mimi; his brother, Fred Moore and Linda of Rochester, N.Y.; and nephew, Brian Moore and Angela, and grandniece Doris. Alan also leaves behind his dear cousins, Joyce Richardson and Don, Michael Moore and Anne, Patricia DeFurio and Tom, Jane Holliday and Larry, Sue Cornwell and Sheryl Conner, all of New York; John Moore and Cecy of Arizona; Thomas Moore and Dawn of Nevada; and maternal first cousins, Donald DeLorme and Diane DeLorme of New York. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, David Anderson of California, and Michael Lozano of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his cousin, James Moore.

A celebration of Alan’s life will be held in the spring.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish.
