Bantams earn state title

Glacier Avalanche’s Bantam hockey team won the Montana Amateur Hockey Association State Tournament last week after winning all four of their tournament games and defeating Great Falls 6-1 in the championship game.

The team finished the MAHA season with a perfect record of 25-0-2. The Bantams are a community travel team comprised of athletes from across the Flathead Valley, ranging in age from 12 to 14 years old.

“The kids went into state very focused,” coach Scot Blair said. “They had one goal in mind — to win state. They stuck to the game plan, kept their heads and played smart hockey.”

Blair said it’s pretty hard to win the state tournament.

“There are seven teams, and you have to get through all of them,” he said.

Logan Jones, Luke May and Zack Colgrove led the charge for the Avs, while goalie Travis McGill was solid in front of the net all season.

“All of the kids played great all season,” Blair said. “It was a great team effort.”

The team is coached by Blair, Doug Markus, Murray Craven and Pat Schur and managed by Sheri Craven.
