Saxofun, a saxophone group, will perform ragtime music at Marantette Park on Thursday, July 7, beginning at 6 p.m. as part of the Columbia Falls Lions Club's summer concert series. Left Over Biscuits will perform bluegrass at 7 p.m. Donations of $3 per person or $5 per family are suggested. In event of rain, the concert will be held at the St. Richard's Catholic Church, on the U.S. 2 strip.
The spring 2011 burning season has ended. Outdoor burning will be prohibited from July 1 through Sept. 30. Open burning will resume in October and November if there is no significant fire danger. Burn permits are not required for campfires or barbecues. To prevent forest fires, build safe camp fires, and stay with them until they are dead out and don't set off fireworks in areas where grass or vegetation can start a fire.
RBM Lumber, of Columbia Falls, recently received a $20,000 federal Rural Energy for America Program grant that will help pay for a new chipper to make hog fuel, which will decrease the lumber mill's electrical use.
Boys and Girls Club of Glacier Country will hold their annual benefit auction and boat tour starting at Volunteer Park, in Lakeside, on July 9. There will be live and silent auctions, entertainment and a prime rib dinner. Tickets are $150 per couple, $75 each, and $500 for a table of eight. One hundred percent of the funds will benefit the youth of Flathead Valley. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets or donating to the auction can call Alan Sempf at 261-4232.
The Columbia Falls High School Class of 1961 will celebrate their 50th reunion during Heritage Days on July 29-31. They are still looking for classmates Linda (Berrian) Danielson, Tom Dakin and Mickey O'Connor and class sponsor Mildred (Shaw) Emerson. The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help out with its Heritage Days 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday, July 29-30. This is the chamber's major fundraiser and has raised more than $3,000. Volunteers are needed to set up the courts and monitor the games. The Wildcat Athletic Endowment Association will hold its annual auction and barbecue behind the Columbia Bar & Grill on Friday, July 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The golf scramble will take place at the Glacier View Golf Course, in West Glacier, on Sunday, July 31, with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. WAEA is raffling off a 2010 Polaris Sportsman ATV.
