Schmid-Sommer wins Telemark races
Even a thick fog and frigid
temperatures couldn’t slow down retired Telemark racer Kelsey
Schmid-Sommer.
The five-time national champion edged
local racer and U.S. Regional team memeber Maggie Doherty to win
the women’s elite division on Saturday at the Don K Subaru Sprint
Classic at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
David Hobbs, formerly of White-fish,
won the men’s elite division by a whopping 15 seconds. Hobbs
currently lives in Missoula.
Racers started near Big Mountain’s
summit, then launched off a jump before hitting gates in Ptarmigan
Bowl and finishing near the bottom of Chair 5 with a 360-degree
turn.
