Ling nails front flip to win slopestyle series
The Night Riders Park Series concluded
Feb. 25 with a slopestyle competition in the Fishbowl terrain park
at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The slopestyle format allowed skiers
and riders to demonstrate skills on various park features. Despite
frigid temperatures, 35 competitors showed up for what the event
department called “the fastest slopestyle contest ever put on.”
As the final event in the series,
skiers and riders were competing for both individual event and
series wins. There was tight competition in the snowboard men’s
open division, with Chance Ling and CJ Page finishing with only one
point between them.
Ling took home the slopestyle and
series win with a front flip off the propane tank feature. Both
Ling and Page are WMR freestyle team alumni.
Other Slopestyle event winners were
James Heil, grom ski 8-12; Casey Ling, grom snowboard 8-12; Marley
Rodwick, ladies ski; Pascal Jessat, men amateur ski; Cole Maxwell,
men amateur snowboard; and Kirby Sutherland, open ski.
Series champs were Wyatt Coe, grom Ski
8-12; Hunter Lamoureux, grom snowboard 8-12; Marley Rodwick, ladies
ski; Aimee Bartell, ladies snowboard; Matthew Hensley, men amateur
ski; Kyle Thomsen, men amateur snowboard; and Dustin Moran, open
ski. Coe, Lamoureux, Rodwick and Tomsen are all WMR freestyle team
athletes.
