Boys tennis shakes up roster
The Bulldogs will take a new-look
lineup to the boys Northwest A divisional tennis tournament this
weekend in Libby. Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said the fresh
roster is built to win at the tournament.
“We’re going into divisional with a
better lineup and better chance to succeed,” Schwaderer said.
“Winning duals looks nice on the surface, but they don’t mean much
at divisional.”
The major shift comes in the doubles
roster where Connor Ellis and Camp Kenyon will be paired up as the
No. 4 seeded team. Kenyon has spent most of the season playing No.
2 singles. The duo tested their ability last week, winning at Ronan
and losing a tough battle with Polson.
“They have good chemistry,” Schwaderer
said about the new pairing. “They are starting to come together and
I think they have a reasonable shot at getting to state.”
Austin Satler and Casey Beiser will
play as the No. 6 seeded doubles team.
“They could certainly score some points
for the team and knock off some higher seeds,” Schwaderer said.
In singles, Jake Morison is the No. 5
seeded player. Schwaderer likes his path in the bracket.
“If he plays up to his potential, he
should be able to make it through,” he said.
Schwaderer thinks a team win is within
reach and that there is no outright favorite. Libby has the best
singles players, he says, but they’re not as strong in doubles.
Polson, he said, put all their eggs in the doubles basket.
“I don’t think anyone has a real clear
shot,” he said. “You never know what’s going to happen in a big
tourney like that.”
The divisional tourney is in Libby
starting Thursday.
