Lady Dogs face off against Wildkats for league title
The Lady Bulldogs kept pace in the
Northern A conference with two impressive wins last week. Whitefish
rolled past Polson 9-0 and edged Bigfork 4-0 to keep their
conference record at 6-1, one game behind rival Columbia Falls.
The two teams clash Oct. 6 in a game
that decides the league championship.
“We’re going into this week with a lot
of confidence,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens told the Pilot. “We
are improving every day.”
If Whitefish wins at Columbia Falls,
the two team will be tied for first place after splitting their
head-to-head matches. The champion is then decided by goal
differential.
“Both No. 1 and No. 2 go to the
playoffs,” Farrens said, “but it’d be good to clinch the top seed.
The game will be on their home field, but our girls will be ready
to play.”
Whitefish continues to tally goals all
over the field, Farrens said.
“We’re scoring on set pieces and during
play,” she said. “Our possession is getting better every day.”
Natalie Gayner finished with four goals
and an assist against Polson. Anna Carpenter, Kayla Simmes and
Megan Danczyk each tallied in the first 10 minutes. Katherine
Millette and Sam Dittman both hit the net to round out the
scoring.
Danczyk and Gayner lead the team in
total points with 16 and 13 goals, respectively. They are the
fourth and fifth scoring leaders in all of Class A as of Sept.
