Lady Dogs earn No. 2 seed in playoffs
The Lady Bulldogs finished a few goals
short of bringing home another conference trophy. Whitefish tied
Columbia Falls 2-2 in a soccer match they needed to win by two
goals to earn the league title.
Whitefish tallied first in the
hard-fought game when Megan Danczyk put in a shot from the top of
the penalty box. The ball bounced off the left post and past the
Kats’ keeper.
McKenzie Kiser scored for Columbia
Falls in the 52nd minute to tie it up.
Sam Dittman regained the lead for
Whitefish in the 59th minute off a penalty shot, but the Bulldogs
gave up the lead again when Columbia Falls’ Danielle Delventhal
scored in the 69th minute.
Whitefish keeper Piper Greenwood made
numerous saves in the second half to keep her team alive, but the
Wildkats’ depth wore down the Dogs as the game pushed into the
final minutes. Greenwood finished with 10 saves, including numerous
game-savers.
Whitefish capped off their regular
season Saturday with a tough 3-2 loss at Hamilton. The Lady Broncs
are the top ranked team in the Southern A conference.
The defeat dropped Whitefish’s record
to 7-4-1 overall and they finished with a 6-1-1 league record. They
open the playoffs Saturday on the road as the No. 2 seed from the
North against the winner of a play-in match between Laurel and
Belgrade.
