Lady Dogs edge Dillon at net
The Lady Bulldogs tennis squad scratched out a gritty 4-3 win over Dillon on Friday to offset a tough conference loss to Polson.
Simone Craft, Ryan Chauner, Mackenzie Thomas and Caroline Carbo each tallied two-set wins to sweep the singles matches against Dillon.
“It was nice to sweep the singles,” coach Patrick Dryden said. “The singles players really came through for us. Simone’s win was a key to the match.”
Craft rolled 6-2, 6-1 past Janet Moore to pick up another win at the No. 1 spot. Chauner and Thomas both won at 6-3, 6-1 and Carbo scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
Every match on the doubles side was close but fell Dillon’s way.
“We were a little back on our heels in doubles,” Dryden said.
Megan Danczyk and Lindsey Viscomi dropped a tight battle 6-4, 6-4 while Lauren Cain and Haley Craven lost in three sets after mounting a nice rally attempt. Maggie Frankino and Anna Carpenter also dropped a tight match 6-3, 6-4.
Against Polson, Dryden said they put some pressure on the top team and played aggressive.
“All of the sets went deep,” he said.
He noted the play of Anna Carpenter.
“She played with a lot of determination,” Dryden said.
