Headed to London
Perseverance: “Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.”
Seven years ago, my husband, Sam Kavanagh, lost his leg in an avalanche. An event like that could cause a person to become bitter, angry, a shell of a man. Instead, it caused my husband to become one of the most amazing people I know.
Sam has used this experience to motivate others, challenge himself and change people’s perspectives on “disabilities.”What turned our world upside down completely changed our lives and left us wondering where we would go, has given us a new outlook on life. We now know what is most important — to love our friends and family fully, to share what we have and to encourage people to live life with no LIMBitations.
Through this journey, we have always had the love, support and encouragement of our friends and family, as well as the faith and strength God has given us. When you have those things, you are able to see joy through the pain.
Now, seven years later, Sam is heading to London to compete with the world’s most elite para-athletes in the 2012 London Paralympics. We know that this could not have happened without the amazing community of people who have given so much in so many ways.
Thank you does not seem enough. Please know that our family would not be who we are without all of you.

and Nolan Kavanagh
