Choose the lowest bid, use local labor

I am writing my concern as to why the taxpayers of Whitefish have to pay for the highest bid given to reconstruct the high school.

I was always told that when one asked for bids, one chose the lowest bid and used local labor. That way it benefits Flathead County and not Bozeman. I agree with Charlie Abell. I feel that next time bids are let, they will come in a lot higher on work, as construction companies will know they can get the bid. I think those on the school board should rethink this and go with a local contractor and the lowest bid. Something is not right, to choose this Bozeman contractor, and the highest bid. This will certainly affect the decision of the future of other bond issues affecting all the schools in Flathead County.

I was born and raised in Whitefish. A graduate of Whitefish High and have owned properties in Whitefish. Never have I ever heard of anyone taking the highest bid before, not when there were other qualified contractors bidding.
