Marjory Bacon

| December 12, 2012 8:28 AM

“God called Mother home” on Nov. 23, 2012, while being comforted by her son John and the staff at Parkview Acres, in Dillon.

Marjory Roberta (Bowers) Bacon was born July 15, 1924, in Dore, N.D., to Robert and Lillian Bowers. She was one of nine children. She married Norris Bacon on Jan. 27, 1947. Norris and Marjory went on to have four children, living first in Nohly and then settling in Martin City in 1964, and finally moving to Dillon to be closer to family. They were married for 54 years before Norris was “taken to Heaven.”

Mom was well known for her piano playing and accompanying the love of her life, fiddler Norris Bacon. She never liked to be on center stage but was always there to enhance the music of other musicians. She and Norris passed on their love and talent of music to their children. Holiday meals at the Bacon house were always followed by Mom going to her piano after the dishes were done.

She would start to play, and the rest of the family would pick up their instruments and join her as if we were being summoned by some unspoken command.

Mom was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Montana Old Time Fiddlers Association, and played music with Norris at the Senior Citizens Center and various other organizations. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering pillow cases, dish towels and doilies for her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary of any family member. We could always count on getting a card from Mom.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lillian Bowers; husband Norris; daughter Bonnie Marjory; brothers Thomas and Patrick; and sisters Jenny Dahl and Alice Melby.

She is survived by her children John Bacon and wife Carolyn, of Dillon, Nancy Ayres and husband Ben, of Martin, S.D., and Joan Bacon, of Dillion; grandchildren Hannah Ayres, of Boise, Idaho, Franklin GIlbert and wife Libbe, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Justin Ayres, of Martin, S.D., Joshua Bacon and fiancé Katie, of Alder, Bonnie Ortiz and husband Gabriel, of Dillon, and Amelia Bergum and husband Nate, of Billings; great grandchildren Jacoby Hayes, of Boise, Idaho, Aiden and Kayla Bergum, of Billings, and Briana Savattere, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; brother Robert Bowers; sisters Patricia Hibbard, Marvel Rider and Kathleen LaCounte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

“If every child could have a Mom like ours, the world would be a much better place. She and Dad are making music for Jesus now.”

A memorial was held at Parkview Acres Care and Rehab Center on Dec. 1, 2012. A community memorial will be held Dec. 29, 2012, at Brundage Funeral Home, in Dillon. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held in Sidney in spring 2013.
