The Bigfork High School drama team championed the Class B schools at their meets for two weekends in a row, last weekend in Corvallis and the weekend before that in Cutbank.

Speech, once again placed in the top spots, taking second to Loyola among the Class B schools.

Head coach Charlie Appleby said the meet was well-run and Bigfork had the chance to compete against a large number of Class A and AA schools as well as Class B and C schools.

“Every year this meet brings some of the best competition in the state,” Appleby said. “It’s great to go to these big meets as an opportunity to prepare for the state tournament.”

Drama leaders were Danny McVay, who placed second in humorous solo, and Emily Pataky and Sarah Abbot with a fourth place finish in classical duo. Maddie Lorang led the speech team with third place in memorized public address and sixth in expository.

The next meet isn’t until Jan. 5 in Columbia Falls. In the meantime, Appleby is beginning to prepare for the divisional tournament on Jan. 19 at Bigfork High School. He said they are looking for volunteers to judge during the meet. A judging clinic will be held the Thursday before the meet. Participants will be given a handbook and personal instruction for the events they are going to judge.
