MatCats drop Loggers in conference dual in Libby
The Columbia Falls wrestling team entered the Christmas break on a high note, downing conference rival Libby away on Dec. 20.
The Loggers gave up three forfeits in the dual. The MatCats had wins by Kaleb Gravelin (112), Josiah Osborne (130), Jacob Burgess (160) and Spencer Ross (Hwt) — all by pins. Matt Erhart (215) won his match by major decision.
“We started right off the bat with great intensity,” said coach Jessie Schaeffer. “They’re looking better and better each week. The had great tempo in each match and wanted to win and get the job done.”
Schaeffer also had kudos for the Libby team — they warmed up with T-shirts that honored Taylor Peterson, the Columbia Falls teen who recently died of cancer.
“That was a real class act,” Schaeffer said.
After Christmas, the MatCats hit the road again, traveling to the Ronan wrestling tourney Jan. 4-5.
