Nancy Schwegel
Nancy Kathryn Corne Schwegel, 73,
passed away Jan. 10, 2012. She was in hospice care and was welcomed
into the Lord’s embrace, surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born Nov. 30, 1938 in Clear
Lake, Minn., to Theodore and Eunice (Williams) Corne. She was
raised in the Blackduck, Minn., area, attending school in Blackduck
and graduating from Blackduck High School in 1956.
On July 20, 1957 she married Roman
(Romey) Schwegel. Together they had six children. The family lived
for many years on the Iron Range of Minnesota, until 1973 when they
moved to Flathead County Montana. The family resided in Olney for
quite a few years until Romey and Nancy retired.
Nancy was an avid bowler most of her
adult life. She enjoyed hunting (and was an excellent shot),
fishing, camping, playing cards and doing crafts with her
grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and loved to watch cooking
shows on television for inspiration for recipes. She read most
every kind of book available and loved movies, especially John
Wayne and Clint Eastwood westerns. She loved softball and was a
great pitcher, making all-stars in many tournaments.
Nancy had been a member of Women of the
Moose and was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary. She
worked for several years as a nurse aid at North Valley Hospital
and in the planer at American Timber Company in Olney.
Nancy made many trips to many states to
visit family and friends. One of her greatest thrills was an annual
trip to the Oregon coast to fish for sturgeon in the Columbia
River. She went to Oregon each year for several years with her
younger sister Joanne and was very disappointed when she had to
give up those fishing trips.
After her husband passed away, she
moved to the Whitefish Manor, a senior apartment building where she
made several new friends and really enjoyed the Saturday night
bingo games.
Nancy was preceded in death by her
parents, Theodore and Eunice; her husband, Roman; and infant
daughter, Christine; brothers, Thomas Corne and Jerome Corne; her
sister, Betty Schwegel; and son-in-law, Daniel Wright.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa
and husband Gary Hill of Olney, and Lana and husband Daniel Pettit
of Columbia Falls; sons, Kim and wife Jera Schwegel of Kalispell,
Greg and wife Janet Schwegel and Olney, and Carl and wife Lisa
Schwegel of Craig, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and 31
great-grandchildren from Alaska to New York; brothers, Benjamin
Corne of Minnesota, and Ted Corne of Whitefish; sisters, Mary
Lawson of Pennsylvania, Joanne Stiles of California and Lynn Sande
of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Nancy’s life
will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
The family respectfully requests no
flowers and instead a donation to a home hospice organization or to
a favorite charity. You are invited to go to www.austinfh.com to
