Robert Owens

Robert (Jack) Evan Owens, 79, passed away Jan. 7, 2012, at Lake View Care Center in Bigfork.

He was born Dec. 25, 1932, to Harry Morgan Owens and Alice Marie (Douglas) Owens.

Robert attended grade school through high school in Eureka and then attended two years of college at Sierra College in Auburn, Calif., and two years at the University of Montana, in Missoula. He played football and basketball throughout his high school and college education and also throughout his military career.

After college, Robert married Sylvia A. (Ellefson) Dunbar on March 29, 1959, at the Presbyterian Church, in Missoula.

Robert worked for the Anaconda Aluminum Co. in Columbia Falls, first in the potlines and then as a substation operator for several years. He then went to work as the chief substation operator for the Bonneville Power Administration, in Anaconda.

Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at his brother Keith's cabin up the Swan. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling and spending winters in Florida with his brother.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Alice Owens and his brothers Delbert and Keith Owens.

He is survived by his children, Tanna Speed, of Columbia Falls, John Owens, of Marion, and David Owens, of Kalispell; sisters Mary Alice Rein, of Renton, Wash., and Ginger Owens, of Columbia Falls, grandsons Jason Speed and John Owens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Robert's request, no services will be held at this time. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
