Roberts named outstanding wrestler at regional tourney

Columbia Falls grappler Shonn Roberts was named the outstanding wrestler in his weight class at the June 21-27 West Kids and Cadets Regional Championships in Pocatello, Idaho. The tournament drew some of the best wrestlers from across the West.

Roberts went 8-2 in duals, took second in folk style and Greco events, and took third in freestyle in the Cadet 106-pound bracket.

He won the outstanding wrestler crown by accumulating more points than the other grapplers in his weight class.

“It was a pretty tough tournament,” he said.

Roberts was a state Class A champion at 98 pounds last year and will be a sophomore this upcoming season. He went 26-2 in last year’s Class A matches. Roberts said he’ll probably wrestle at 105 or 112 pounds next season. He works out everyday and practices once a week.
