Funraiser aims to raise $6,000 for traffic safety

Winning a vacation stay in an Arizona executive home, a three-piece bronze bear sculpture, an instant wine cellar, a Pat Lambrecht Hould original art piece, and more are all possibilities if residents attend the fourth Annual Lucky Fundraiser in Lakeside at the Tamarack Grill and Alehouse on Wednesday, June 13, 5-9 p.m.

Members of Saving Lives on the West Shore, also known as SLOW, have scheduled a fun-filled evening of raffles, silent auction items, door prizes and the trademark “copcakes” for Tap Night. Not only will 75 cents of each ale purchased be donated to the fund, but there are also opportunities to have great food, good company, and endless chances to win outstanding prizes.

The past fundraising evenings have provided operating expenses for Lucky, the decoy police car, that patrols the west shore corridor of Montana 93 and calls attention to posted speed limits. The previous fundraisers also helped fund the two solar-powered speed awareness signs on the north and south end of Lakeside thanks to great community support.

This year’s event will again support the operating costs of Lucky, but will be focusing on the approximately $6,000 needed for solar powered speed signs in the Somers area.

Results have shown the presence of both the decoy car and the speed indicator lights have been significant in slowing traffic through this heavily traveled corridor. With the increase in traffic, and particularly pedestrian and boat traffic along the public launch on Montana 93, the committee hopes to have the signs in place as soon as funds are available and the Montana Department of Transportation has approved their location.
