Pertinent information to avoid pouting

The first North Fork Landowners Association meeting of 2012 was apparently not very well attended. This is not really unusual for June. After all, the majority of landowners are summer residents and not year-rounders. Most NFLA members will be arriving later this month. In addition, quite a few members traveled to the valley this year to attend high school graduations.

As a member of the School District 6 Board of Trustees, it was my privilege to take part in graduation ceremonies at Columbia Falls High School. What a fine group of young people. They earned more than $2 million in scholarships and brought a flock of state championships to Columbia Falls in athletics and speech and debate.

Also, the Ogle clan had two granddaughters graduating from high school, and there may be others I don’t know about, like the graduates from Jerry and Linda Wernick’s Tamarack Springs private school.

It really didn’t make a lot of difference since committee reports were the main topic of the NFLA meeting. During the winter, several committees spend a lot of time and effort planning and preparing for the next summer’s activities.

I don’t know how the social committee managed to fill so many dates for this summer’s fun activities. All of these activities are open to everyone, whether they are members or not. This creates a need for a subcommittee to make signs, which will be posted at the Polebridge junction and at Sondreson Community Hall. The signs will announce the next social activity and where and when to meet.

The Fire Mitigation Committee will host a firewise educational meeting on July 11 before the interlocal meeting, which will focus this year on forest health and stewardship as well as how to best protect your property from wildfire.

The weed committee will host several educational meetings and weed pulls in their continued effort to improve wildlife habitat.

In addition to the NFLA, the North Fork Preservation Association and the North Fork Compact have activities, and Don and Sue Sullivan will again conduct a nondenominational church service at Sondreson Hall every Sunday.

Anyone who is bored during a North Fork summer is really hard to please, since we also have camping, fishing, floating and a variety of other activities that you can do by yourself or with your family without belonging to any group. If all of that fails, you can pout and swat mosquitoes.
