Missoula DJs bring art of mixing to the Raven

Bass pounds the air above Flathead Lake just off the cement deck at The Raven on Saturday night. Neon green, pink and blue lights trade stage time with a bright white one that rotates, highlighting Woods Bay in flashes.

DJs Keishie and Illegitimate Children bounce with the sound of the beat they produce, jumping and turning, eyes on their computers, headphones over their ears.

It’s just the beginning of the first of four Rumbles at The Raven by BassFace Productions out of Missoula. Ebola Syndrome and Inevitable Thought round out the evening of beats that are a little out of the ordinary for Bigfork’s music scene.

BassFace Productions is responsible for parties like the Disco Bloodbath, 4,000 people in an industrial warehouse somewhere in Missoula, and Prostep, which took place at the Wilma Theatre.

One of the masterminds behind the collective that throws parties for a living, Logan Foray, said they were nominated largest cultural influence in the state last year.

For four years the group of DJs, lighting designers, and artists has put on 100-150 events a year like the ones they will produce at The Raven this summer.

They do “a little bit of everything, honestly,” Foray said. “We just do this for fun.”

The bass will beat at The Raven in Woods Bay once a month through September. For dates and times check the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce website at www.bigfork.org.
