Betty Lou Lohmann

Betty Lou Lohmann, age 86, formerly of Sentinel Butte, N.D., passed away from natural causes on Sunday, June 17, at Epiphany Assisted Living in Coon Rapids, N.D. She was surrounded by family and wonderful staff at Epiphany who loved her. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach, N.D. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beach with Reverend Scott Hojnacki officiating.

Interment followed the luncheon at the Lohmann Cemetery in Sentinel Butte.

arrangements.

Betty was born on May 11, 1926 in Beach, at the Johnstone Memorial Hospital, a daughter of William and Clara (Anderson) Hollar, joining two half-brothers, Harold and Fritz Hollar, and one half-sister, Marie Trester. She attended school in Beach all the way up to the twelfth-grade, missing graduation by three months so she could marry Glen Lohmann, who was soon to be deployed to battle in World War II.

After the war ended, Betty and Glen made their home on a ranch north of Beach where she was a homemaker for 32 years until Glen unexpectedly passed away in 1975. Eventually Betty married Ray Horn, and they lived in Alaska and then Bigfork, where the brief marriage ended in a divorce. Betty continued to live in Bigfork where she became an accomplished china painter and gardener.

Betty was President of the Bigfork Garden Club, a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bigfork, and also very active in the Senior Citizen’s Center in Bigfork.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Lohmann; one half-sister, Marie; two half-brothers, Harold and Fritz; and brother-in-law Bud Lohman.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Judy (Leroy) Knote of Billings, and Jill (Glenn) Thieling of Coon Rapids; one son, Glen (Cheryl) Lohmann of Dickinson, N.D.; one very loved sister-in-law, Muriel Lohman of Glendive; eight grandchildren, Andy (Anna) Knote of Colorado, Renee (Alan) Schroeder of Bozeman, Travis (Ricci) Lohmann of Cottage Grove, Minn., G J Lohmann of Glen Ullin, N.D., Cassie (Josh) Copple of Andover, Minn., Bryan (Tara) Thieling of Lonsdale, Minn., Laton (Janessa) Lohmann of Hillsboro, Minn., Andrea (Wes) Krebs of Belfield, N.D.; eight great-grandchildren; Tyler and Jordan Lohmann, Addison and Mason Copple, Khyla and Sammy Thieling, Clara and Rafe Krebs; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
