Williams sets two records at Whitefish A.R.M.

Derrick Williams continues to wow them at track. On April 28, the Columbia Falls long-distance runner set two meet records at the Whitefish A.R.M. meet. Williams won the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:54.54 and the 1,600 meters in 4:20.44, just two seconds ahead of Flathead’s Troy Fraley, who ran a 4:22.64.

Williams’ times set new meet records. Both Williams’ and Fraley’s times were the fastest in the state this season.

Williams 1,600 time bests the track record of Whitefish’s Drew Coco in 2008 of 4:25.44.

His 3,200 time bests Dane Steward of Plains time of 9:57.09 set in 2000.

As a team, the Columbia Falls boys took fifth. The girls took ninth.

Top runner for the girls was Samantha Mundel, who won the 3,200 with a time of 12:13.24.

The girls also had nice performances from Morgan Christianson, who took third in the 400 with a time of 1:03.64, and Jinise Osborne, who took third in the 1,600, posting a time of 5:35.14.

On the boys side, there were also nice performances from Josiah Osborne, who was second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.54. Jacob Babcock was third in the shot put with a throw of 43-11.50.

The team travels to the Archie Roe tournament in Kalispell this Saturday.
