Don Beville, of Lakeside, set a record with the most fish caught in this year’s Spring Mack Days by hauling in 38,085 lake trout from Flathead Lake over the 11-week period. The previous record was 34,350 in 2010.

Beville averaged 60 fish a day during his best 18 days on the lake. The event is sponsored by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and is aimed at suppressing the lake trout population in Flathead Lake.

Tanner Murry, of Columbia Falls, came in second in the youth group for ages 13-17 with 295 fish. Dan Smith, of Columbia Falls, tied for hauling in the smallest lake trout, 160 millimeters.
