Park roads close, Two Med, Many Glacier could reopen

Wintry weather has closed many of Glacier National Park’s roads, but some could reopen if the weather improves, Park spokeswoman Denise Germann said.

An October snowstorm dumped snow on the valley floors Monday night, with about six inches or more in some places.

As a result, the Chief Mountain, Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads and most of the Inside North Fork Road were closed. The Inside North Fork Road is open only to Doverspike Meadow, north of Polebridge. Once it closes in the fall, the Inside North Fork Road typically doesn’t reopen until it melts out in spring.

The Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads could reopen when weather improves, Germann said. Typically those roads are open until the third week of November or when heavy and continued snows close them.

Forecasters are calling for better weather next week, with highs in the upper 40s to 50s. The Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed at Avalanche Creek on the west side and at Rising Sun on the east side.
