Lady Dogs perfect at home
Whitefish’s girls soccer team stayed perfect in league play after picking up a pair of wins last week against Bigfork and Polson.
The Valkyries proved to be a tough nut to crack Thursday as Whitefish tallied just one goal in the first half. Bigfork keeper Jazzmyn Musser was on her game and kept Whitefish’s relentless attacks in check.
Anna Peterson tallied the Lady Bulldogs’ lone first half goal. Peterson took a feed from Haley Craven and punched in the score from inside the goalie box.
“We were a little bit too impatient with our shooting,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said about the first half. “We started to look for better shots in the second half instead of taking a shot just to take a shot.”
The adjustments worked — quickly.
Peterson tallied again in the 42nd minute off a pass from Janessa Courtney. Senior Megan Danczyk hit the net in the 62nd minute and Addie Elm capped the day with a goal just before the final whistle.
Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs came out on fire against the Lady Pirates of Polson.
Whitefish scored four goals in the first half and added five more in the second for the 9-1 victory.
Elm scored twice and Danczyk went for a hat trick to lead the way.
Whitefish outshot Polson 37-2 as they dominated the pitch from start to finish.
The Lady Bulldogs next host Columbia Falls on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in what should be another heated rivalry game. The Kats recently topped Libby 9-0 and Polson 10-0, and are undefeated in league play.
“We’re mentally preparing ourselves,” Farrens said. “The girls are excited to play some stiff competition. It’s fun to really challenge ourselves and see what we can do against the another undefeated team.”
