Softball solid at plate in loss to Libby

Whitefish’s softball team put the bat to the ball in last week’s game against Libby, but struggled to turn baserunners into points on the scoreboard.

The Lady Loggers rolled to a 12-2 conference win, despite Whitefish’s eight hits.

“We left a lot of runners on base,” Whitefish coach Carrie Lamb said.

Libby also capitalized on fielding errors.

“They scored on all of our errors,” Lamb said.

Still, the team looks to be finding their stride. Senior Shannon Craft turned a pair of double plays, slugger Malia Morris has tallied a few doubles and triples, and senior Andrea Lamoureux has been solid in the pitching circle.

“The girls are starting to realize they are capable of competing in the conference,” Lamb said. “Now we have to teach them that competing is good, but winning is the goal.”

“We need more girls to come around at the plate and understand the importance of at-bats with runners on base. When we have ducks on the pond, we want to bring them home.”

Whitefish hosted a double-header Tuesday against Browning, and travels to Frenchtown on Friday.
