Cats hone track times, Osborne wins at home

Josiah Osborne won three races on a blustery day at home April 16 as Columbia Falls hosted a track meet with Libby, Whitefish and Eureka.

Osborne won the 100, 200 and 400 meter races with times of 11.33, 23.99 and 56.41 respectively. As a team, the Wildcats were edged by Whitefish, 240.5 to 225.5.

Other top finishers included Zac Fry in the 1,600 at 5:44.05 and Stephen Lindsey in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5. Ty Morgan won the javelin with a throw of 163-3, and the boys 1,600 meter relay team took top honors with a time of 3:55.23.

On the girls’ side, Angela Tamburelli won the 200 in 29.06, Kelsey Gilbertson won the 400 in 1:06.66, Samantha Mundel won the 800 in 2:40.47, Summer Burlage won the triple jump with 29-2 1/2, and Andrea Getts won the javelin with a throw of 93-2.

As a team, the girls outpaced the field by a wide margin with 297.5 points. The meet featured a host of junior varsity athletes mixed in with varsity performances as well.

At the Libby Invitational on April 19, the boys took fifth while the girls took second as the competition stiffened considerably.

Carla Nicosia won the triple jump at 34-2 and the high jump with a leap of 4-8.

The boys lone first came in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:45.48. Colin King had a nice leap of 20-6.75 in the long jump to take second.

The team travels to the Missoula Top 10 meet on Tuesday after presstime and then to Whitefish for the ARM meet.
