Free meals
The Columbia Falls Community Kitchen will serve free, nutritious meals in the basement of St. Richard’s Catholic Church, in Columbia Falls, on Saturday through Tuesday, April 27-30, at 6 p.m.
Live music
Porter Creek will play bluegrass and folk at Montana Coffee Traders in Columbia Falls on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Earth Day
Citizens For A Better Flathead will present short films about recycling and Earth Day at the Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts and Technology Building, Room 139, on Thursday, April 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Awards will be presented for recycled art projects, and presentations will be made about local trail projects. Merc reopens
The Polebridge Mercantile will re-open for business on Friday, April 26, at 7 a.m. An open house to celebrate their supporters will be held at the Merc on Saturday, April 27, from 3-5 p.m. Appetizers will be served. The Merc will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from June through August.
Plants & pies
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 401 Seventh Street West, in Columbia Falls, will hold its sixth annual pie and perennial plant sale on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to noon. Pie by the slice and whole pies will be available for sale. All funds raised will be donated to Habitat for Humanity/Thrivent Builds. Drop off times for plant and pie donations are Friday, May 10, noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, starting at 6:30 a.m. For more information, call 892-7789 or 892-3784.
School musical
Fourth-grade classes at Glacier Gateway Elementary School will present the musical “The Adventures of Lewis and Clark” in the Columbia Falls High School Little Theater on Friday, April 26, at 1:45 p.m. A morning show for students is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Dog show
The Flathead Kennel Club of Montana will hold an AKC-sanctioned dog show at Marantette Park in Columbia Falls on Saturday, May 11. GSC concert
The Glacier Symphony will conclude its 30th concert season with Beethoven, Brahms and Alexander Scriabin’s “Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor” performed by the young Russian-American pianist Vassily Primakov. The concerts will be held in the Flathead High School auditorium, in Kalispell on Saturday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m. Tickets for the final concert are available in a range of prices at www.gscmusic.org or by calling 257-3241. Youths through grade 12 are admitted free.
Medical fundraiser
A medical fundraiser for Tyler Huston, the Tyler’s Cinqo de Mayo Benefit Festival, will take place at The Zone Family Fun, 3240 U.S. 2 East, in Kalispell, on Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tyler had a heart attack at age five and requires an expensive, life-saving operation. Big Brothers Big Sisters
The 35th annual fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County will take place at The Rack Shack, on U.S. 93 in Somers, on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with dinner, drinks and a silent auction. Tickets are $200 for two. For more information, call 752-0092.

Islamic poetry
Members of the Crown of the Continent Choir, along with Khaled Zaki, an Islamic chant specialist, and Irfan Khan, an Islamic scholar, will present a free poetry reading in the Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts and Technology Building on Monday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. The poetry of Rumi and Hafiz, two popular Persian poets from the 13th and 14th centuries, will be read by members of the Crown of the Continent Choir, and a call to prayer will be given by Zaki and explained by Khan.
