School and church

| December 2, 2013 7:21 AM

On a recent visit to McDonald’s, I picked up a two-sided, full-color flyer produced by the Mormon Church. Side one announces a “Multi-Denominational Community Christmas Celebration” to be held at the church on Thursday, to celebrate “The Birth of Our Savior Jesus Christ.”

OK, side one, a program at the Mormon Temple given by Mormons.

But wait, side two announces performances by student choirs from three of the county’s high schools. Public high schools. Students from public high school choirs, supported by our tax dollars, are participating in a religious event sponsored by a religious entity.

This is wrong. Public school choirs should not participate in any religious event or at any religious venue.
