The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre is seeking students in grades 6 through 12 to audition, March 4, for the cast of the retro musical “Schoolhouse Rock Live!,” based on the ABC-TV educational animated series which aired from the 1970s-80s.

Auditions will be held at the BPCT’s Afterschool Center, 833 Grand Ave. across from the Fire Hall and Flathead Bank, on March 4 from 4:30-6 p.m. for grades 6-8 and from 6-8 p.m. for grades 9-12.

This production calls for a medium sized cast and costs nothing to audition. If cast in the show, there is a $40 participation fee. Auditioners need to prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play or book, and plan to learn to sing something for the audition.

Experience isn’t necessary and materials are available at the BPCT.

Stage help is needed as well, everything from building sets, props and costumes to running the lights and sounds.

Parental and student assistance is welcome. To sign-up and for more information, call 837-4886 or email bpct@bigforksum merplayhouse.com or check their website at www.bigfork summerplayhouse.com.

PREVIEW

In the dark, the audience will hear the sound of an alarm clock ringing and are introduced to Tom, a young teacher preparing for his first day of school. As he rehearses what he will say, he hears the school bell and the sound of the children settling into their desks. One at a time the audience will see Tom’s “other sides,” as they enter speaking his thoughts.

The audience will be introduced to Tom’s romantic side, goofy side, sweet side, cool side and more.

When he turns on the TV the theme to “Schoolhouse Rock” begins to play and the characters begin to sing the familiar songs that Tom instantly recognizes:

“Verb, That’s What’s Happening,” “Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing,” “3 is a Magic Number,” “Lolly Lolly Lolly,” “Unpack your Adjective,” “Just a Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,” “Great American Melting Pot,” “Interplanet Janet” and more.
