Former C-Falls athletes doing well in college
Several former Columbia Falls athletes are having success in the college ranks. Here’s a look at some of their accomplishments over the past few months:
• Runner Derrick Williams recently qualified for the NAIA championships as part of Carroll College’s 4-by-800 relay team. Williams and teammates Troy Solly, Austin Stuchell and Taylor Peliska won their race at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho, on Feb. 2 with a time of 7 minutes, 43.75 seconds. The championship races will take place this weekend in Geneva, Ohio. The games are streamed live online at www.naia.org.
• Former Wildcat football players Nathan Woods, at Carroll College, Nate Thompson, at Montana Tech, Kelly Houle, at Montana Western, and Cal Vukonich, at Rocky Mountain College, recently were named to the Frontier Conference Academic All Conference football team. To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be enrolled at school the previous two semesters.
• In January, Columbia Falls grad Austin Barth was named the top offensive player on the Montana State University Scout Team. Barth primarily played tight end and receiver for the football team as a freshman at MSU.
