WHS wrestlers hang with Polson, Hamilton

Whitefish’s wrestling team put up a good fight Saturday in a conference dual with a tough Polson team.

The Bulldogs posted four wins en route to tallying 27 points.

119-pounder Skyler Bowerman picked up a 7-5 decision after going to the wire with Alex Helgeson. Bowerman scored a two-point take down just before the final buzzer in the third round to get the win for Whitefish.

Senior 135-pounder Wyatt Price opened his match with a flurry of moves, quickly scoring two points to set the tone against Rhett Burland. Price reversed out of trouble in the first round and scored a pin at 1:44.

140-pounder Matt Sampson worked hard to score a pin against Noah Fouty at 1:32. His win tied the dual at 27-27.

Whitefish won by forfeit at 112 and 285 pounds to make the final dual score 57-27.

Later in the afternoon, Whitefish nearly edged Hamilton in a dual.

130-pounder Matt Barton pinned Austin Gaswint at 4 minutes, and 145-pounder Judah Prestegaard pined Hamilton’s Kyle Borgan in 2:33 to lead the team. Madison McWhirter picked up a 3-2 decision in the 152-pound match.
