Civilian Conservation Corps lecture

The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center at Glacier National Park will host a free brown-bag lecture at the Community Building in West Glacier on Thursday, July 11, from noon to 1 p.m. Render and Helen Davis, freelance writers and photographers, will tell the story of the Civilian Conservation Corps in America’s parks. Their recently completed book, “Our Mark on This Land: A Guide to the Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in America’s Parks,” culminates a decade of research in state and national archives and collections, visits to more than 100 national parks across the country, and correspondence with noted experts on the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Book talk

James Clarke, a writer from West Glacier and a university distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Arizona, will talk about his first fictional book, “Backcountry:  A Novel,” at the Montana House in Apgar Village, inside Glacier National Park, on Saturday, July 13, at 7 p.m. The book is a thriller story of love, murder, and high adventure set in Glacier Park. Annual alumni picnic

The annual Glacier National Park Alumni Picnic will be held at the Park Headquarters Community Building, in West Glacier, on Sunday, Aug. 18, from noon to 4 p.m. Past and current employees will gather to visit and share a picnic lunch. There will be door prizes, a Park update and a special program of interest to former employees.
