Classic rural scene wins photo contest
Jessica DeVaan had passed by the scene off West Valley Drive a thousand times — two classic cars left to rust in a field where an old wooden silo and barn still stood.
As a full-time student at Flathead Valley Community College, it wasn’t until DeVaan took an elective photography class that she made time to stop and study the landscape through her camera lens.
Using 35 mm slide film, DeVaan masterfully captured the contrast, shapes and story of the scene. Her photo is now the cover of Park Side Federal Credit Union’s 2014 calendar.
Members of the credit union recently submitted photos for a calendar contest, and DeVaan’s image rose to the top. DeVaan, originally from Somers, also won the 2012 Montana Journalism Review photo contest.
