This summer, children in Whitefish through age 18 will be able to get free meals at Whitefish Middle School as part of a new meal program.

The program runs through Aug. 9. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is from noon to 1 p.m.

According to Jay Stagg, district food service director, Whitefish became eligible to participate in the program this year after parts of the town met certain poverty level requirements.

The state Office of Public Instruction notified the school district that it was eligible to participate based upon Census data.

There are no requirements, other than age, for children to participate.

“It’s free food,” Stagg said. “There’s no income verification.”
