Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks' popular Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program (BOW) is hosting two workshops in western Montana this summer.

A one-day workshop is planned for Plains on Saturday, July 13 at the Sanders County Fairgrounds. The workshop will include classes on using a map & compass, Dutch oven cooking, packing with llamas, handgun safety and more.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Registration is $30 if received before July 1st. The workshop fee includes instruction, equipment and materials, a continental breakfast, light lunch, and late afternoon snack.             The annual summer weekend BOW workshop is set for August 2-4 at Lubrecht Experimental Forest, approximately 30 miles east of Missoula. Find a registration form online at fwp.mt.gov under “Education,” or stop by the Missoula FWP office (3201 Spurgin Road).

Weekend workshop participants choose four classes from a variety of topics including basic gun handling, fishing, map and compass, outdoor cooking, kayaking, plant identification, outdoor survival and more. Anyone 18 years of age or older may participate. The fee ranges between $180-270 and includes class instruction, meals and lodging.

“We encourage women to sign up with a friend and learn a new activity or improve existing skills,” said Liz Lodman, Montana BOW Coordinator.  For more information, contact Lodman at 406-444-9940, or by email: llodman@mt.gov.
