Girls tennis roster deep with doubles teams
Whitefish’s girls tennis team looks to be in solid shape this spring with a nice mix of veterans and newcomers challenging each other for starting positions.
Five seniors and three juniors return for the Lady Dogs, along with a swarm of 21 freshman.
“I’m very enthusiastic,” coach Patrick Dryden said. “We have a lot of talent.”
The Lady Dogs are deep on the doubles side.
“From top to bottom, this is the strongest we’ve been at doubles in my tenure,” Dryden said.
Megan Danczyk and Lindsey Viscomi, and Ryan Chauner and Haley Craven will lead the doubles teams.
“Those two teams are rock solid,” Dryden said.
Senior Lauren Cain will likely fill one spot on the other doubles team, with an unknown teammate.
“Lauren is showing that she’s the most improved player,” Dryden said. “She has more power than anyone else on the team. Now we just have to find her a partner. That might take some time.”
The singles side took a hit when junior Simone Craft blew her ACL in the final basketball game of the season.
“That’s a tough way for the season to start,” Dryden said. “It will put a hole in the line up.”
Craft will stay on the team as manager.
Look for juniors Caroline Carbo and Sloan Ellis to lead at singles, along with McKenzie Wick.
“I feel really good about our chances this season,” Dryden said. “We’re hoping to qualify as many kids for state as possible.”
The season begins March 28 when Whitefish travels to Columbia Falls.
