Nicosia, Johnson take firsts at Whitefish
Wildkats Carla Nicosia won the triple jump and Ellie Johnson took top honors in the javelin at the Whitefish Akey, Rosenberg and Murphy (ARM) track meet April 27.
Nicosia leaped 34-5 to qualify for the state tournament, and Johnson threw the javelin 121-5.
They were the only athletes from Columbia Falls to come home with first-place finishes. Other notable finishes for the girls included Savanna Moon, sixth in the 100 at 13.6, and Samantha Mundel, fifth in the 800 at 2:34.86.
Nicosia also took fifth in the 300 hurdles at 51.71 and second in the high jump with a 4-8 jump. The girls 1,600 relay team took fifth with a time of 4:30.62 and third in the 400 relay at 53.81. On the boys side, Wildcat Josiah Osborne was third in the 100 at 11.5 and fourth in the 200 at 23.81. Luke Kazlauskas took third in the 400 at 54.77, and the boys 400 relay team took fourth at 45.95.
In the long jump, Nakia Alexander was third with a leap of 19-3.25 and fifth in the triple jump with a 40-0 jump.
The team will travel to the Archie Roe tournament in Kalispell on Saturday.
