A 1-2-3 finish helped propel the Whitefish boys to a win in the ABC Invitational track meet on Saturday in Polson.

The Bulldogs’ Iaian Cameron, Logan Harwood and Sean Foley took the top three spots in the 100-dash to sweep the podium. Cameron clocked an 11.70 for first place.

Harwood also won the 800 with a 2:03, while teammate Luke Cardon won the 400 at 51.75. Keaton Grove took the 100 hurdles for Whitefish and each of the Bulldogs’ relay teams won handily.

Jake May was second in javelin and Gage Smith second in shot put and discus to lead the team in the field.

Coach Derek Schulz said EJ Havens’ second-place pole vault of 13-6 was the day’s highlight.

“That’s a big deal,” the coach said. “It’s a real break-through for him. He works really hard.”

The vault qualifies Havens for the state meet.

The girls team finished in fourth with 59 points. The defending state champs from Corvallis won with 227 points.

Freshman Allie Schulz came up big with second-place runs in the 200 dash and 100 hurdles. Phoebe Guercio was second in the 300 hurdles.

“Phoebe had a really great meet,” Schulz said. “She had season-bests everywhere she went. Allie was great, too. They are exactly where they need to be this time of the season.”

In the field, Eviann Reynolds put up solid throws with a fourth-place toss of 103-10 in javelin and a third place 33-11 in shot put.

Brielle Birgensmith cleared 8-0 for fourth place in pole vault.

Whitefish hosts the Northwest Divisional track meet this Friday and Saturday. Schulz says the goal will be to qualify as many kids as possible for the state meet while scoring team points.

Hosting the divisional meet is special for both the athletes and community.

“These event only come around at home so often,” Schulz said. “Divisional is always important, but it’s extra important at home.”

He expects tough competition in all events.

“We’re going to see all the kids at their peak performance,” he said. “We’ve got to have our game face on for this one. Everyone else does, so you better be ready.”
