Kats settle for tie vs. Polson

Some games a team can’t buy a goal. That’s how the Columbia Falls girls soccer team must have felt after out-shooting the Polson Pirates at home Sept. 26 only to come away with a 0-0 tie.

The Wildkats had a flurry of shots in the last 10 minutes, but Polson’s young defenders did an excellent job of altering most of them — either by forcing dribblers or making them miss the mark entirely.

The Kats had a couple of good chances in the first half as well. Forward Ellie Johnson had two one-on-ones with Polson keeper Jenna Evertz, but one shot went over the crossbar and Evertz caught the second one right in the chest.

“They played hard,” coach Greg Trennerry said of the Kats. “They dominated in shots, but we didn’t finish, and that kills you. We’ve had the same problem all year long.”

The Polson game was the third time the girls tied this season. The Kats are now 1-1-1 in conference and 2-2-3 overall.
