The Met: Live in HD opera a success
Hats off to all the donors to, and members of, the Whitefish Arts Council, especially Carol Atkinson, who worked hard to bring the Live at the Met performance to the Whitefish Performing Arts Center on Saturday.
If you weren’t there, you missed a thrilling performance of Tchaikovky’s, “Eugene Onegin” live from New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House.
I have sat in both the Met and the WPAC and I can tell you that the quality of the transmission was superb. It was cheaper and easier to go to the WPAC than it is to go to NYC — no parking problems, good seats, fair priced ticket at only $20 ($5 for students), and the joy of seeing friends and neighbors in our own venue.
I have been driving to Helena or Missoula for four years to see Live at the Met. I am delighted to keep my money right here in Whitefish with this great new cultural addition to our community.
There are nine more operas to be shown at the WPAC this season. Call 862- 7591 for tickets or go online at www.whitefishpac.com for more information. The next opera is at 10:55 a.m. on Oct. 26, an unusual opera by Shostakovich, “The Nose.” I hope to see you there.
