Virgil Foy

| September 1, 2013 10:06 AM

Virgil Wayne Foy, 88, passed away Aug. 22, 2013, at Brendan House in Kalispell after a short, three-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

His great grandparents were among the first settlers in the Flathead area. They homesteaded at Foy’s Lake and operated the first sawmill in the valley.

Virgil was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Kalispell. He attended Flathead County High School from 1941 to 1942. In 1943 Virgil decided hunting season was more important than school — that was the end of high school.

In 1943, he married Ruth C. Issacs in Kalispell. From that union Edward and Dennis were born.

Virgil served in the Merchant Marines in 1944 and 1945. He worked for the Forest Service fighting fires and working in lookout towers, drove a taxi cab, worked in construction and worked for Equity Supply doing wholesale delivery until 1983.

In 1988, Virgil married Dottie Randall in Kalispell.

Virgil is survived by his sons Edward Foy and wife Cindy, of Columbia Falls, and Dennis Foy and wife Marcia, of Missoula; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; two stepsons; a stepdaughter; and his brother Leslie Foy.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside services and rites will be held at Glacier Memorial Gardens on Friday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m.
