Cats look good in Belgrade win

The Columbia Falls High School boys soccer team split the bill last week. On Sept. 6, they lost a tight match against Livingston at home, 1-0 when they scored in the 75th minute to win the game.

But the boys bounced back the next day to drop Belgrade 3-2, as Quentin Foust dropped in a pair of goals and Caleb Baumann added another.

The Cats looked a bit flat against Livingston, but against Belgrade they kept their shape and form, driving the ball deep into Belgrade’s end of the field.

Foust headed in two scores for the Wildcats — one on a corner kick at the 13-minute mark from winger Casey Burghduff and again on a corner from Burghduff at the 73rd minute to win the game.

Baumann scored a goal at the 38-minute mark to make it 2-1 Cats. Belgrade tied it up 2-2 at the 69th minute.

“It was a good deal,” coach Peter Browne said. “They played well, and I was pretty proud of them.”

The Cats are pressing more and taking chances on offense — and it paid off.

Keeper Mason Gedlaman was key in front of the net with eight saves, including several one-on-ones.

“Mason had a tremendous game,” Browne said.

The Cats travel to Laurel on Friday and face Billings Central on Saturday. They begin conference play Sept. 17 against Bigfork at home. Bigfork tied Libby 3-3 last week.
