Mundel paces Kats with sixth at Ronan
Wildkat Samantha Mundel took sixth at the Ronan Invitational on Sept. 13 to pace the Columbia Falls High School cross-country team. Mundel ran the course in 20:18.
“She got isolated from the lead pack early on and did a remarkable job holding off chase packs behind her,” coach Richard Menicke said.
Top runner for the boys was Zayne Brunz, who clocked a 18:46 to take 14th. Brunz was followed by Winfield West, 23rd at 19:20. Kyler Burns, 41st at 20:10, and Storm Kemppainen, 49th at 20:33.
Girls varsity times included Allie Folks, 17th at 22:43, Meredith Stolte, 19th at 22:49, Kendra Cahoon, 22nd at 22:50, Miranda Livingston, 37th at 24:29, and Sadie Panasuk, 39th at 24:51.
Menicke said he was also pleased with Folks’ progress and noted that Livingston and Panasuk had personal-best times.
The boys are still trying to get six to seven runners healthy for a varsity team, but Menicke said he was pleased with Brunz’s performance.
“It’s nice to see Zayne coming into form and looking relaxed while running fast,” Menicke said.
The team travels to Polson on Saturday.
