Getts starts strong in tennis

Emily Getts went undefeated in singles play as the Columbia Falls tennis season opened last week with matches against Ronan April 8, Whitefish April 10 and Dillon April 11.

Getts swept her opponents as a sophomore.

In her best match, Getts blanked Adrianne Southam of Dillon, 6-0, 6-1.

“Another fine match by Emily,” remarked coach Jerry Smalley.

Smalley was also pleased with the play of Hailey Sapa, at the No. 2 singles position. Sapa beat Tea Gibson of Dillon, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) for the win. The Dillon match was played in Polson.

As a team, the girls beat Ronan 4-3, but lost to Whitefish 5-2 and Dillon 4-3.

The Wildkats had more matches scheduled for Saturday, but a snowstorm took care of that, forcing cancellation of the match against Hamilton at home.

On the boys side, the team is having a tough time winning matches. They lost to Ronan and Whitefish by lopsided 6-1 margins.

Grant Wallace beat Colton Roullier, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 for the lone Ronan win and Mason Gedlaman and Caleb Baumann beat Chaffin Ross and Nathan Fauth, 6-0, 7-5 for the lone victory in doubles against Whitefish.

This week teams play Polson at home Thursday and then are the road this weekend for a tournament in Cut Bank.
