Bigfork High School golf gears up
This year’s Bigfork High School golf team is pretty green.
“We’re young,” coach Steve Hullett said.
Twelve boys and three girls came out for golf this season. There have to be four players to make a team, so the girls can only compete individually.
Though the girls are few in numbers, Hullett thinks they all have the potential to make it to the state tournament, particularly senior Maddie Lorang and junior Kallister Meagher. Senior Stevi Siloti is the third girl golfing for Bigfork.
For the boys, Hullett said junior Ryder Trent is the most experienced member of the team. Other returning boys are sophomores Jon Landon, Kyler Oster and Jacob Haberlock. The rest of the boys are new to golf.
Hullett has his eye on freshman Colton Stodghill, who broke 90 for the first time last week at the Loyola Sacred Heart Invitational in Missoula. “I was happy with him,” Hullet said. He thinks Stodghill should be averaging in the 80s and high 70s by the end of the season.
“It could be a fairly decent year,” Hullett said. “I’m excited to have these 15 kids out. And I think they’re having fun.”
The Bigfork golf team is holding their invitational tournament on Thursday at Eagle Bend golf course. There are 117 kids signed up for the tournament, some coming from the east side of the state, looking for an opportunity to play the course before they’re on it again for the divisional tournament in May.
Hullett expects to see Lorang, Meagher, Trent, Landon and Stodghill all finish in the top 15 Thursday.
