Amtrak passenger trail derails
Amtrak’s Empire Builder passenger train carrying 117 passengers partially derailed on Monday afternoon, April 28, near the Hi-Line town of Bainville, in the northeastern corner of Montana.
Shortly after the accident, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said three cars on the 13-car train left the tracks, but the train was still upright and had power. Minor injuries were reported to one passenger.
Magliari said the train was expected to continue west on its trip from Chicago to Portland by Monday night after the three derailed cars were uncoupled.
The Montana Department of Transportation reported that Highway 327 was closed to motor vehicles near the scene of the derailment.
