Public advised about logging projects

Flathead National Forest officials advise the public to be aware of active logging projects on Forest land. Drivers are asked to slow down and use caution near these areas.

Loaded logging trucks have reduced response time which makes it extremely important for drivers to be alert and responsive when encountering logging trucks.

Active logging sites at this time include:

• On the Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District, logging is underway at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Log hauling will be taking place on Road 316, the Big Creek-Canyon Creek Road, from Aug. 13 to Sept. 15.

• On the Spotted Bear Ranger District, logging is underway on the Cedar Chipmunk Road Best Management Practices contract. Short delays up to 30 minutes can be expected on Road 549, the Bunker Creek Road, and Road 2829, the Cedar Creek Road.

Trucks also are hauling logs around the Hungry Horse Reservoir on Road 895, the West Side Reservoir Road, and periodically on Road 38, the East Side Reservoir Road. There is high recreation traffic on these roads, and visitors are asked to drive slowly and responsibly.

• On the Swan Lake Ranger District, log hauling is underway in the Lindbergh Lake area as part of the Glacier Loon timber sale on sections of Road 79, the Lindbergh Lake Road, Road 56, the Kraft Creek Road,  and Road 9591.

This project is expected to run through Jan. 1 Log hauling is also underway in the Swan Lake area on Fenby Lane as part of the Six Mile timber sale.
